Description

POSITION: Contractual Occupational Therapist

To provide occupational therapy to students as determined by Individual Education Program (IEP) goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

  • Serves as an itinerant therapist to students with a documented education disability and as a consultant to teacher, parents, administrators, and others as appropriate.
  • Serves as a member of an IEP team when students receiving occupational therapy are being discussed.
  • Performs team approved occupational therapy screening assessments and evaluations during the school year.
  • Interprets test results and write reports.
  • Participates in the development of the IEP.
  • Provides occupational therapy services to students with approved IEP.
  • Provides consultative services to parents, teachers, administrators, transportation staff, and others as appropriate.
  • Consults with outside agencies; shares information with teachers, administrators, and school health staff as appropriate.
  • Completes Medicaid billing encounter forms.
  • Maintains accurate records and completes required special education forms.
  • Maintains documentation of services provided to students.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
  • Assists school personnel in determining the most appropriate educational programs to meet his/her needs.
  • Completes 504 plans for students as needed.
  • Works closely with agency and school personnel in planning for proper placement for students returning from other educational settings.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hold or be eligible for a Maryland license as an occupational therapist from the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH).
  • Good knowledge of occupational therapy diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Ability to prepare and report occupational therapy diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Able to collaborate with educational professional staff and parents.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills.

 

DUTY YEAR AND SALARY:

  • This is an 11-month position. Contractual pay is based on experience.
